Learn from Me, for I am Gentle and Humble of Heart
At the heart of the spiritual life of every Sister of Mary Immaculate is a profound devotion to the Holy Eucharist, the source and summit of Christian life.In the Eucharist, the sisters encounter Jesus Christ truly present, drawing strength, wisdom, and courage for their daily apostolic mission. Through the celebration of Holy Mass, Eucharistic Adoration, thanksgiving, and personal prayer before the Blessed Sacrament, they deepen their intimate union with Christ, who sends them forth to serve His people with love and compassion.
As daughters of Mary Immaculate, the Patroness of the Congregation, the sisters strive to imitate her humility, purity, faith, obedience, and total surrender to God’s will. Inspired by her example, every sister seeks to proclaim with her life, “Be it done unto me according to your word.” Through the Rosary, Marian feasts, consecration to Mary, and daily imitation of her virtues, the sisters entrust their lives and apostolic works to her maternal care.
The congregation nurtures a deep devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus, contemplating His infinite love and mercy for humanity. The Heart of Christ inspires every sister to become an instrument of God’s compassionate love, especially towards the poor, the suffering, the forgotten, and those in spiritual need. United with the Heart of Jesus, the sisters learn to love generously, forgive readily, and serve selflessly, allowing His compassionate Heart to beat through their own.
The Sisters of Mary Immaculate also hold a special devotion to Saint Joseph, the faithful spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the guardian of the Holy Family. They look to him as a model of humility, silence, integrity, obedience, diligent work, and unwavering trust in Divine Providence. Saint Joseph teaches the sisters to carry out their daily responsibilities faithfully, often in hiddenness, knowing that every act of service offered with love glorifies God.
The Sisters of Mary Immaculate of Nyeri recognize that their apostolic fruitfulness depends on an intimate and living relationship with Jesus Christ. Through regular spiritual exercises, every sister continually renews her consecration, deepens her communion with God, and is strengthened to live faithfully the congregation's charism of Passion and Compassion for Souls. The following spiritual exercises form the foundation of the daily, monthly, and annual spiritual life of the congregation.
